About Brinsop

Brinsop Limited is a senior, independent advisory practice providing regulatory, governance and assurance support to regulated gambling businesses and industry bodies.

The practice operates at board and governance level, focusing on oversight, independent challenge and regulatory risk, assurance and defensibility rather than day-to-day execution.

Nicholas Macias

Brinsop is founded and led by Nicholas Macias, Gibraltar’s first gambling regulator. Following his regulatory role, Nicholas held senior compliance leadership positions within industry and has held a UK Gambling Commission Personal Management Licence since 2014.

His work spans regulatory affairs, governance and assurance, trade association leadership, and strategic advisory.

How Brinsop operates

Brinsop operates as a principal-led practice. All work is led directly by Nicholas, ensuring single-point accountability and continuity of judgment.

Engagements are positioned at governance level. Where specialist expertise is required, trusted senior advisers are engaged under defined scopes, without diluting accountability or independence.

Regulatory perspective

Brinsop’s work is informed by an understanding of how gambling regulatory frameworks are designed, implemented and supervised, as well as how they have evolved over time. Drawing on experience from the early stages of modern gambling regulation in Gibraltar and exposure to regulatory developments across multiple jurisdictions, Brinsop focuses on regulatory intent as well as the detailed requirements themselves.

This perspective supports clearer interpretation of regulatory obligations and more proportionate, defensible governance and assurance arrangements. It enables boards and senior management to assess not only whether requirements are met, but whether oversight structures, controls and escalation mechanisms align with supervisory expectations and regulatory risk.

Independence and boundaries

Brinsop applies a strict, role-based approach to managing conflicts of interest. While Nicholas holds an active role within the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association, Brinsop does not advise Gibraltar-licensed operators or applicants.

Brinsop does not provide outsourced operational compliance services or act as a substitute for management functions.
